What you'll learn

“Deaf people experience depression and anxiety at higher rates and at an earlier age compared to the general population as well as finding it difficult to get help (Kushalnagar et al 2019)”

Adult Deaf Specialist Mental Health services are unique in their demands and composition. These are services provided specifically for Deaf patients, whether that is on an in-patient ward or out in the community. Deaf clinical staff are a key part of this provision.

Through this webinar, Wendy will provide you with an overview of such settings. You will have time to consider specialist language, including clinical terms and medications. We will also explore some common types of meetings specific to mental health interpreting.

We will examine your role as part of the multi-disciplinary team, along with potential ethical challenges that this brings.

A Deaf patient is expressing their views in sign language, with an interpreter and clinician present. The clinician is taking notes.
