"Hello! Once again I have purchased another fantastic webinar...I cannot explain how valuable a tool these webinars have become for me, as a TSLI and hopefully beyond!" - Sharon, Trainee Sign Language Interpreter
The philosopher Wittgenstein said “The limits of my language mean the limits of my world”.
As interpreters in training, we spend many years honing our sign language skills – and rightly so. But how much time do we devote to enhancing our use of the English language? In this webinar we will look at aspects of English such as identifying our passive and active vocabulary in English and exploring ways to extend our lexicon. Giving further attention to our English language skills is sure to improve our abilities in both voiceover and sight translation.
During this webinar Helen will guide you through ways to actively increase your vocabulary, and get down to the nitty gritty of the English language and its grammar. By the end of the webinar you will be assisted to achieve the following learning outcomes:
- identify register or style in English
- identify your passive and active lexicon
- have an understanding of the use of idiom, lexical phrases and minor sentences
- understand affixes and root words
- understand ways to actively increase your vocabulary
This webinar is suitable for both American-English and British-English learners as well as spoken language interpreters seeking to improve their English.
