What you'll learn

We’re delighted to have Dr Wendy McIntosh back by popular demand! Feedback from her first webinar, ‘Professional Boundaries – maintaining wellbeing for all’ was overwhelming! Most attendees requested further training on transference and counter transference and we don’t like to disappoint here at Linguistpd!

In this session Wendy will explore the powerful psychodynamics of transference and countertransference including attachment and attachment theory.
Wendy will use action methods to sculpture the transference/counter transference concept and may well introduce a bit of psychodrama during the webinar to enrich the learning experience.

This webinar is suitable for professionals of all types. You don’t have to  have watched Wendy’s first webinar but if you would like to purchase a recording you can do so on our Recorded Webinars page.

Wendy says “Understanding the concept of transference and countertransference can greatly assist the professional to understand the dynamics of the relationship.  Many “aha” moments can occur when one tunes into the verbal and non verbal responses they have towards a client. Working with clients over a period of time may create dynamics that are not always obvious to the professional. It is also possible that the experience of transference and countertransference is experienced in a “once off” interaction.

The terms ‘transference’ and ‘countertransference’ were coined by Freud (1835-1939). Transference occurs when an individual transfers (projects) their unmeet needs, wishes and expectation from their past  onto a current relationship with a professional. The counter transference occurs when the professional transfers (projects) their emotions (unmet expectation etc) onto the client. Understanding the power of transference and countertransference can greatly assist in maintaining professional boundaries.”
