What you'll learn

Tom Mould’s latest session will focus on the practical side of AI and the specific features that enable interpreters to safely utilise platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and NotebookLM. The session takes participants on a guided journey through key tools, exploring their core functions, their privacy and safety settings, and their most useful features.

With hands-on activities, live demonstrations and a bit of fun, participants will leave feeling confident and equipped to start taking advantage of these amazing new tools. Participants are strongly advised to have completed Tom’s previous session in order to gain foundational understanding on how AI models work, the ethical implications of AI use and other considerations interpreters must make in order to safely engage with AI tools.

In order to ensure full participation in the session, participants should ideally prepare by creating accounts with the main public LLM platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) or at least one platform of their choice. A Google account would also be beneficial so that participants can engage with the activities and features during the section exploring NotebookLM. b.

Learning outcomes:

  • Identify and navigate key features, privacy settings, and safety controls across major AI platforms (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and NotebookLM) to ensure safe practice.
  • Gain the skills to navigate a variety of tasks using AI platforms, enabling confidence for further exploration and adaptation in future practice.
  • Recognise practical use cases for AI by exploring real-world examples that directly relate to interpreters’ everyday workflows.
